Even more – one in three – suffer from some form of malnutrition.Waisting food in a hungry world:Hovewer, each year, an estimated one third of all food produced – equivalent to 1.3 billion tonnes worth around $1 trillion – ends up rotting in the bins of consumers and retailers, or spoiling due to poor transportation and harvesting practices.In 2019, the World Food Programme provided assistance to close to 100 million people in 88 countries who are victims of acute food insecurity and hunger.During the Covid-19 pandemic, such relief efforts are even more challenging.
